The PDP’s National Working Committee has called an emergency meeting after FCT Minister Nyesom Wike revoked the party’s land rights for its national secretariat in Abuja. The decision, officially linked to unpaid dues, has intensified internal tensions, with party members viewing it as a politically motivated move.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called for an emergency meeting in response to the decision by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, to revoke its land rights for the party’s national secretariat in Abuja. The move, officially attributed to unpaid dues, has further strained the already tense relationship between Wike and PDP leadership.
According to government officials, the party failed to pay ground rents on the property for nearly 20 years, despite repeated notices from the FCT Administration urging all landowners to settle outstanding fees. As a result, the government says it has reclaimed the land by existing property regulations.
However, PDP insiders believe the revocation is politically motivated. Wike, a former Rivers State governor and influential figure in the party, has been at odds with PDP leadership since the 2023 general elections, where he openly backed President Bola Tinubu. His continued alignment with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has fueled concerns that he is working against his party.
In a swift response, the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) convened at its headquarters in Abuja to deliberate on possible legal and political countermeasures. Some party members argue that the revocation is an attempt to weaken the PDP’s national presence, while others see it as part of a broader campaign to sideline opposition voices.
As tensions rise, the decision has sparked debates on whether Wike should remain in the PDP or formally declare his allegiance to the APC. The party’s leadership is expected to release an official statement following its emergency meeting, setting the stage for another showdown in Nigeria’s evolving political landscape.
