PDP governors criticize Nyesom Wike's threatening remarks against rival states. Wike’s comment about causing unrest in states backing Rivers Governor Siminalayi Fubara is condemned as irresponsible. The PDP Governors’ Forum calls for national security intervention and emphasizes party unity and constructive dialogue to resolve internal conflicts.
Governors from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have expressed strong disapproval of remarks made by Nyesom Wike, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) minister. Wike, addressing a PDP state congress in Rivers, threatened to "put fire" in the states of PDP governors who align with Siminalayi Fubara, the governor of Rivers State. This threat comes amid ongoing tensions between Wike and Fubara over control of the political structure in Rivers since 2023.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Emmanuel Agbo, the Director-General of the PDP Governors’ Forum, criticized Wike’s comments as "irresponsible and unacceptable." Agbo highlighted that such statements jeopardize efforts to foster peace and unity within the party. He noted that Wike’s remarks were particularly disappointing given his past involvement with the Forum.
The PDP Governors’ Forum reaffirmed its support for Governor Fubara and asserted that the party’s decisions regarding Rivers State are final and not subject to individual revision. The Forum urged national security agencies to address Wike’s statements, emphasizing that no one is above the law.
The governors reiterated their commitment to maintaining party unity and called for constructive dialogue to address and resolve internal conflicts. They stressed the importance of reconciliation and cooperation to strengthen the party and support collective progress.
