The PDP Governors’ Forum has denied rumors that five of its members support an El-Rufai/Obi 2027 presidential ticket. Forum Chairman Bala Mohammed dismissed the speculation as false and politically motivated. The governors reaffirmed their commitment to party unity and vowed to back the PDP’s official candidate for 2027.
Governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have strongly refuted claims that five of their members are backing a potential Nasir El-Rufai and Peter Obi presidential ticket in 2027. The PDP Governors’ Forum, led by Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, dismissed the speculation as false and politically motivated.
In a statement issued by the forum’s Director-General, Dr. Emmanuel Agbo, the governors condemned the reports as an attempt to destabilize the opposition. Mohammed stressed that the PDP remains united in its mission to provide an alternative to the ruling party, rejecting any suggestions of internal divisions or secret endorsements.
“These rumors are the work of detractors who cannot handle the progress PDP governors are making despite economic challenges. We are not in alignment with these actors and will not allow our party to be hijacked by political opportunists,” the statement read.
The PDP governors reaffirmed their commitment to party unity and pledged to support whoever emerges as the party’s presidential candidate in 2027. They criticized the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing it of attempting to stifle democracy and create a one-party state through misinformation.
The denial follows increasing political speculation ahead of the 2027 elections, with various camps positioning themselves for influence. While El-Rufai and Obi have not publicly commented on the reports, the PDP leadership has made it clear that it remains focused on strengthening the party and offering Nigerians a viable alternative in the next general elections.
