The PDP congratulated John Mahama on his Ghanaian election win, drawing parallels to Nigeria's future under APC rule. The party criticized the APC's governance, citing economic failures and rising hardships. The PDP insists that Nigerians are seeking a return to better days, with hopes for a 2027 electoral shift.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed its congratulations to John Mahama, the newly declared president-elect of Ghana, following his victory in the country’s recent presidential election. Mahama, who previously served as president from 2012 to 2017, defeated the incumbent vice president, Mahamudu Bawumia, the candidate from the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP). Mahama secured 6.3 million votes, amounting to 56.5% of the total vote.
In a statement issued by PDP spokesperson, Debo Ologunagba, the party linked Mahama’s triumph to what they see as the growing momentum for change in Nigeria. Ologunagba described the victory of Mahama’s National Democratic Congress (NDC) as a resounding testament to the will of the people, which he believes will soon resonate in Nigeria. The PDP spokesperson suggested that, just as Ghanaians rejected the NPP, Nigerians will similarly vote out the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027.
Ologunagba criticized the APC for its economic policies, which, according to the PDP, have led to widespread poverty and the erosion of Nigeria’s once-strong economic standing. He accused the government of neglecting the welfare of the populace while enriching themselves, stating that the economic struggles under the APC have caused major international companies to exit the country.
The PDP further lamented the growing hardships faced by Nigerians, including widespread insecurity and deteriorating infrastructure. Ologunagba stressed that many Nigerians are seeking the return of the PDP's governance model, citing it as the key to restoring prosperity, stability, and hope for the nation’s future.
