The crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has deepened as its South East caucus threatens to dump the party if its repeated nomination of Hon. Sunday Udeh-Okoye as National Secretary is not ratified.

  • South East PDP has re-nominated Udeh-Okoye since October 2023 without success.
  • Zonal leaders say they’ve been sidelined despite their loyalty to the party.
  • The PDP’s National Working Committee (NWC) had directed the region to fill the vacant post.
  • Party elders, including Wabara and Udenwa, warn of reconsidering PDP ties if the issue lingers.

Governor Peter Mbah urged unity within the region, while BoT Chair Adolphus Wabara lamented that the South East is being treated as second-class. “We have been trampled upon,” he said, adding that similar disrespect wouldn’t happen to other zones. Former Governor Udenwa added, “We won’t be taken for granted anymore.”

With defections mounting nationwide, will the PDP risk losing its historic South East base? Can the party’s leadership afford further discontent before 2027?
