The Digest:

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has won the Gwagwalada area council chairmanship election in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), while the All Progressives Congress (APC) secured victory in Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC). INEC Returning Officer Philip Akpen announced PDP candidate Mohammed Kasim as winner with 22,165 votes, defeating APC's Yahaya Shehu (17,788) and APGA's Biko Umar (1,687). In AMAC, incumbent APC chairman Christopher Maikalangu was declared winner with 40,295 votes, defeating ADC's Paul Ogidi (12,109) and PDP's Dantani Zanda (3,398). AMAC recorded 837,338 registered voters, with 65,676 accredited voters and 65,197 votes cast. The results show a split in the FCT's six area councils, with APC winning AMAC, Bwari, and Kwali, while PDP took Gwagwalada. Results from Abaji and Kuje are still awaited.

Key Points:
  • PDP's Gwagwalada win prevents an APC sweep of all declared FCT councils.
  • The split outcome reflects competitive politics in the nation's capital.
  • APC leads 3-1 in declared results, while PDP gains foothold.
  • This signals that opposition can still win despite ruling party dominance.
  • The timing, with two results pending, keeps悬念 alive.
PDP's Mohammed Kasim wins Gwagwalada with 22,165 votes as APC's Maikalangu secures AMAC with 40,295, splitting FCT council results 3-1.
