The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) expressed profound sorrow following a helicopter crash near Bonny Finima, Port Harcourt, that claimed the lives of four of its members. The accident occurred on the morning of Thursday, October 24, 2024, when a Sikorsky SK76 helicopter, operated by East Winds Aviation and registered as 5NBQG, was en route to the NNPCL facility FPSO—NUIMS ANTAN.

The helicopter took off from the Port Harcourt Military Base (DNPM) but tragically went down at approximately 11:22 a.m. in the waterways surrounding the city. PENGASSAN President, Comrade Engr. Festus Osifo, released a statement on Friday mourning the loss of dedicated professionals who were integral to the oil and gas sector.

“The association is deeply saddened by this incident,” Osifo stated. “The contributions of these individuals to our industry and our organization will be sorely missed.”

PENGASSAN extended condolences to the victims’ families, friends, and colleagues, emphasizing its commitment to providing support during this challenging time. The association is actively gathering more information regarding the crash and is fully cooperating with authorities for a comprehensive investigation.
