Peter Obi congratulates the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) for revamping the Port Harcourt and Kaduna refineries, boosting Nigeria's crude oil refining capacity. He calls for transparency in NNPC operations to ensure the benefits reach all Nigerians and reduce economic burdens while urging long-term development.
Peter Obi, former presidential candidate, has praised the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) for successfully revamping the Port Harcourt refinery. The refinery, with an installed production capacity of 60,000 barrels of crude oil per day, marks a significant step in Nigeria's refining capacity. The project is expected to help ease the burden on the country’s energy sector by providing up to 200 truckloads of refined products daily.
Obi also expressed hope that the revived Kaduna refinery will further contribute to Nigeria’s economic growth by boosting productivity and improving transportation. However, he emphasized the need for transparency in the operations of the NNPC, urging the government to ensure clarity and accountability in managing the nation’s oil resources. Nigerians, he noted, deserve to benefit from these improvements, with the promise of reduced fuel prices and long-term economic benefits.
Obi’s congratulatory message also touched on the importance of ensuring these refinery projects support Nigeria’s broader development goals, acknowledging them as a positive move but stressing that transparency will be key to maximizing their impact on the Nigerian economy. The revamping of these refineries is seen as a step toward reducing Nigeria's dependency on imported fuel and enhancing its domestic energy security
