Peter Obi denies arrest rumors, stating he is at home in Onitsha. The former presidential candidate dismisses the claims as fake news, referencing similar false reports. His denial follows ongoing tensions with the APC, including criticism of President Tinubu's administration and allegations of threats against him.
Peter Obi, the former presidential candidate for the Labour Party, has firmly rejected rumors of his arrest, labeling them as "recurring fake news." Obi made this statement on January 8, 2025, via a post on his official X account. He explained that, contrary to the circulating reports claiming he had been detained in Abuja, he is at his home in Onitsha, Anambra State.
This recent rumor is not the first time Obi has been the target of false reports. In September 2024, similar false claims surfaced, alleging that security agencies had invaded his home while he was traveling abroad. Obi expressed his frustration with the spread of such misinformation, emphasizing that those behind it are not acting in good faith.
Despite the ongoing political tensions between him and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Obi urged Nigerians not to be distracted by these baseless claims and to focus on the more pressing national challenges.
This statement from Obi comes amid heightened tension after he criticized President Bola Tinubu's administration in his New Year's message. In response, APC spokesperson Felix Morka suggested that Obi "crossed the line," and both men have since faced numerous threats.
