He urged leaders to prioritize the needs of the populace over luxury expenditures, emphasizing the need for selfless service amid rising poverty and frequent power outages.

Peter Obi, the former Labour Party presidential candidate, has condemned the demand for a new aircraft for Vice President Kashim Shettima, calling it insensitive in light of the current economic struggles facing Nigerians. This reaction follows a statement by Borno State Speaker Abdulkareem Lawan, who claimed Shettima's safety was compromised due to issues with his official aircraft.

Obi took to X (formerly Twitter) to express his concerns, criticizing the Speaker for being out of touch with the realities of economic hardship affecting the country. He pointed out that Nigerians are enduring significant challenges, including rising poverty and hunger, while the nation has been marked as one of the poorest governed in Africa.

In his post, Obi highlighted that many Nigerians are suffering from extreme hunger and that the country has experienced multiple power grid failures this year, impacting businesses and daily life. He questioned the necessity of a new aircraft for the Vice President and stressed the importance of focusing on essential governmental functions rather than luxury travel.

Emphasizing the need for leaders to prioritize the pressing issues of the nation, Obi called for a shift in focus toward improving the well-being of the populace and solving ongoing challenges, rather than indulging in unnecessary expenditures. He urged public officials to commit to selfless service during this critical time for Nigeria.
