In a scathing critique posted on X, former Governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, lambasted the inadequate attention given to human capital development in Nigeria, pointing out its detrimental impact on investment challenges.
Obi expressed shock at the stark budgetary contrast in the 2024 budget, where N5 billion was allocated for student loans while a larger sum of N6 billion was earmarked for building a car park for legislators.
He argued that such misplaced priorities, coupled with excessive costs of governance, hinder tangible and lasting development. Obi highlighted the stark contrast between the budget for a national library, still incomplete since 1995, and the National Assembly's allocation of N3 billion for its own library.
His post underscores the urgent need for strategic budgetary decisions aligned with national development goals
