Former Rivers State Governor Peter Odili praised current Governor Siminalayi Fubara for stopping an attempt by one individual to turn the state into a private estate. Speaking at a Christmas Ballad hosted at his residence in Port Harcourt, Odili highlighted Fubara’s leadership in overcoming a fierce political battle that started on October 25, 2023. Odili emphasized that Fubara’s resilience had not only freed the people of Rivers State but also improved the governance environment, ensuring the happiness of civil servants and citizens alike.

Although Odili did not name the individual, there were clear indications that he was referring to Nyesom Wike, the former governor of Rivers State and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Wike had initially supported Fubara's candidacy but later turned against him, publicly regretting his decision and vowing to unseat him in the 2027 election.

During the event, Justice Mary Odili also praised Fubara’s leadership, describing him as the “emancipator” that the state needed. Governor Fubara, in his response, reflected on the political challenges he faced, saying that the support of the people had strengthened his resolve. He expressed gratitude for the backing of Rivers citizens, stating that with God’s guidance and the support of the people, victory was assured.
