Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara praised former governor Peter Odili as the cornerstone of Rivers politics, highlighting his contributions to the state’s development. Addressing political tensions with Nyesom Wike, Fubara promised unwavering governance while prioritizing education and infrastructure to tackle youth challenges and propel Rivers State forward.
Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has hailed former governor Peter Odili as the cornerstone of politics in the state, describing him as the “beginning and end” of Rivers politics. Fubara made the remarks during a New Year banquet in Port Harcourt while addressing ongoing political tensions.
The governor’s statement comes amid a public disagreement between Odili and Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory. Odili had previously commended Fubara for resisting attempts by Wike to dominate state affairs, prompting a sharp retort from the minister, who accused Odili of diminishing his stature.
Fubara emphasized the significance of Odili and other prominent leaders in shaping Rivers State’s political landscape. “Dr. Odili represents the right face and image of our state politics,” he said, noting the contributions of leaders like Celestine Omehia, Austin Opara, and Uche Secondus in fostering development.
The governor dismissed concerns about political opposition, pledging that his administration would focus on good governance and remain steadfast in advancing the state’s progress. He also highlighted the critical role of education in addressing youth challenges, vowing to prioritize improvements in the state’s educational infrastructure.
