Peter Okoye testified in court against his brother Jude Okoye, accusing him of embezzling N1.38 billion through a secret company, Northside Music Limited. The ongoing trial highlights family disputes and financial misconduct that have affected the popular Nigerian music duo, Psquare.
The ongoing trial of Jude Okoye, the former manager of the popular Nigerian music duo Psquare, has taken a dramatic turn as Peter Okoye, one-half of the group, testified against his brother in a money laundering case. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) presented Peter Okoye as its first witness, accusing Jude Okoye of misappropriating funds totaling N1.38 billion through a company called Northside Music Limited, which Peter claimed was set up secretly by Jude and his wife.
In court on Monday, Peter revealed that Jude had sole control over the group’s finances and bank accounts, which were maintained in major banks such as Ecobank, Zenith, and FCMB. He also described how the financial mismanagement affected his personal life, including the halting of funding for his Ikoyi home project.
Peter disclosed that he discovered the existence of Northside Music Limited, a company operating similarly to their entertainment firm Northside Entertainment. After struggling to gain access to financial information, Peter learned that Jude and his wife were behind Northside Music Limited, with the latter holding the majority of the company's shares. The discovery added fuel to the fire of Peter’s claims that Jude was siphoning off money, allegedly making decisions without the consent of the group’s other members, including Paul Okoye.
The case, which continues to unfold, has cast a shadow over the Okoye brothers’ once-promising partnership. The court adjourned the case until June 4, 2025, for cross-examination.
