Edo Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu vows to remain in office until the November 2024 governorship election despite claims of unpaid salaries and ongoing tensions with Governor Godwin Obaseki. Shaibu, reaffirmed by the Federal High Court, insists on fulfilling his role and maintaining peace amid political discord.
Philip Shaibu, the reinstated Deputy Governor of Edo State, has declared his intention to remain in office until the governorship election scheduled for November 11, 2024. Speaking on Arise Television’s Morning Show, Shaibu asserted that he would resume his duties today following a Federal High Court ruling in Abuja that reaffirmed his position.
Shaibu expressed frustration over Governor Godwin Obaseki’s alleged failure to pay his salary for the past year. Despite this, Shaibu emphasized his commitment to his role, stating, “I’m an elected deputy governor, and the court has reaffirmed it. I will continue in this position until November 11, even if I have not been paid.”
He underscored his adherence to the law and expressed readiness to return to his office, cautioning against any attempts to prevent him from fulfilling his duties. Shaibu assured that he would act peacefully and responsibly, aiming to maintain the respect and functionality of the deputy governor’s office.
The situation highlights ongoing tensions between Shaibu and Governor Obaseki, reflecting broader issues within Edo State’s political landscape. As the election approaches, Shaibu’s defiance and commitment to his role continue to shape the narrative of the state’s political scene.
