The remains of former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Taoreed Lagbaja, were transported from Lagos to Abuja in a solemn military procession. Dignitaries, military personnel, and family gathered at Murtala Muhammed Airport to honor his legacy, with a final salute marking the departure of his casket to the capital.

The atmosphere at Lagos’ Murtala Muhammed Airport Air Force wing was heavy with grief as the remains of former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Taoreed Lagbaja, were prepared for transport to Abuja. The solemn event began with pallbearers, including high-ranking officers from the Army and Navy, moving Lagbaja’s flag-draped casket from the morgue around 9:25 a.m. to the aircraft. Present were notable figures, including Lagos State Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat, white cap chiefs from the Oba of Lagos palace, and senior officials from various branches of Nigeria’s armed forces, police, and paramilitary services.

The Army band played the national anthem, a poignant tribute that resonated as the procession moved. The casket, flanked by escort officers, was carried to the NAF 198 C130 aircraft with a formal, slow march. Members of the Naval Officers Wives Association and retired generals joined the gathering, paying final respects to the late general.

As the aircraft prepared to depart, over 140 soldiers delivered a final salute, marking a respectful farewell to Lt. General Lagbaja and honoring his dedicated military service to Nigeria.
