Onwenu tragically collapsed during the 80th birthday celebration of Stella Okoli on July 30 and was pronounced dead at Reddington Hospital after doctors made every effort to save her.
The service of songs took place at the Fountain of Life Church, Ilupeju, on Friday morning, where many dignitaries gathered to pay their respects. Obi recounted the heartbreaking moments after Onwenu’s performance at the birthday party, recalling how she collapsed shortly after drinking water. He was present at the hospital as medical staff worked tirelessly to revive her, ultimately sharing the painful news of her passing.
The late singer's sons, Abraham and Tijani Ogunlende, referred to their mother as a "national treasure" and expressed deep appreciation for the overwhelming support received from the public and other dignitaries. The burial ceremony is scheduled for 2 PM at Ebony Vaults, Ikoyi, Lagos.
