Gunmen attacked Plateau's Bokkos LGA, killing at least 60 people in a week. Following coordinated attacks on March 27 and April 2, 40 more bodies were discovered. OPSH troops foiled further attacks, but residents are frustrated with the government's lack of action to address the violence.
In a week of escalating violence in Plateau State, the death toll from gunmen attacks in Bokkos Local Government Area (LGA) has reached 60. The attacks, which began on March 27, 2025, when 10 people were killed in Ruwi village, continued with another deadly assault on April 2, 2025, across multiple communities, including Mangor Tamiso, Daffo, Manguna, Hurti, and Tadai.
Following these attacks, 40 more bodies were discovered by residents on Wednesday and Thursday night, confirming the grim scale of the violence. Farmasum Fuddang, the chairman of the Bokkos Cultural Development Council (BCDC) Vanguard, confirmed the additional casualties, explaining that the bodies were found by community members, and burials were conducted under torchlight.
Despite this tragedy, security forces, particularly the troops from Operation SAFE HAVEN (OPSH), managed to intercept more attacks in Bokkos LGA. According to OPSH spokesman, Major Samson Zakhom, militants attempted to target several communities, including Tamiso and Daffo, but were repelled by the troops. The attackers were forced to abandon weapons and motorcycles during their retreat, and signs of blood on the ground suggested they may have suffered casualties.
The residents of Bokkos remain in shock, with many expressing frustration over the government's perceived inaction. Community leaders, such as Fuddang, have criticized the lack of leadership, calling for urgent government intervention to curb the violence and protect citizens.
At the time of reporting, neither the police nor the military had provided official casualty figures from the attacks
