Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang issued a stark warning on Saturday, asserting that Nigeria is at risk of becoming another Somalia if immediate action is not taken to address the persistent violence claiming lives in the state.
During a discussion with former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, the governor expressed his concerns in Jos. The warning follows the reported massacre of over 100 people in Bokkos and Barkin Ladi local government areas on Christmas Eve by unidentified gunmen.
Governor Mutfwang emphasized the urgent need to break the cycle of violence, urging the nation to prioritize justice to prevent people from resorting to self-help measures, which could potentially lead to a Somalia-like crisis.
He also called for a thorough investigation into the financiers of the insecurity, questioning the source of the hundreds of AK-47 rifles. Additionally, Governor Mutfwang addressed the role of critical leaders, including President Tinubu, in expanding their scope to understand and address the root causes of the ongoing problems in Nigeria.
The governor's grave concerns underscore the pressing need for comprehensive solutions to the escalating violence in the region.
