Armed policemen deployed teargas against 16 sacked Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members of the Plateau State House of Assembly. The lawmakers, ousted by the Court of Appeal, were barred from entering the House of Assembly chambers by security operatives at the Rayfield Old Government House in Jos.
Undeterred, the lawmakers and their supporters vowed to remain on the premises, heightening tensions. Simultaneously, Governor Caleb Mutfwang declared a 24-hour curfew in the Mangu Local Government Area, citing a deteriorating security situation.
The announcement, confirmed by the governor's Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bere, emphasized that only essential duties permit movement within the area.
