The Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre (NPF-NCCC) has announced the arrest of Bristol Tamunobiefiri, also known as PIDOM. The arrest occurred on August 5, 2024, in his hotel room in Rivers State. According to ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer, Tamunobiefiri is facing serious accusations, including illegal possession of classified documents and various cyber-related crimes.
The police have committed to a thorough investigation into these charges, stressing their dedication to enforcing the law and ensuring national security. This confirmation follows reports by investigative journalist David Hundeyin, who had previously highlighted PIDOM’s disappearance. Hundeyin’s article, “SOS Alert: PIDOM NIGERIA Is Missing (And I Think We May Know Who Has Him),” prompted widespread concern and a social media campaign with hashtags like #PIDOM and #FreePidom.
The police statement reassured that Tamunobiefiri will be brought before the court next week. This move is intended to address public anxiety and clarify the circumstances surrounding his detention. The authorities are focused on resolving the case and reinforcing the integrity of governmental operations.
