Nigerian singer Portable has been remanded at Oke Kura Correctional Centre in Ilorin after failing to meet court-imposed bail conditions in a defamation case filed by Fuji legend Saheed Osupa. The charges stem from a viral Instagram rant. Legal proceedings continue as efforts to meet bail terms stall.
Nigerian street-pop sensation Habeeb Okikiola, widely known by his stage name Portable, has been remanded in custody at the Oke Kura Correctional Centre in Ilorin after failing to fulfill the court’s strict bail requirements. The ruling followed his arraignment before an Upper Area Court in Kwara State on defamation-related charges.
The case was initiated by veteran Fuji artist Saheed Osupa, who accused Portable of publicly tarnishing his reputation in a March 2025 Instagram livestream. In the now-deleted video, Portable allegedly made inflammatory comments, suggesting that Osupa was sabotaging his earnings from music platforms and attempting to ruin his image.
According to Osupa’s formal complaint, submitted to the Kwara State Police Command, the remarks were not only insulting but posed a threat to public order and personal safety. The petition triggered a police investigation and led to Portable’s arrest in Ogun State on April 13.
Following his appearance in court, Portable was granted bail set at ₦1 million, with two sureties in the same amount. However, the court mandated that one surety be a senior official within the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN), and the second must be a verified property owner in a Government Reserved Area of Ilorin with a valid Certificate of Occupancy.
Due to his inability to meet these specific bail requirements, the judge ordered Portable to remain in custody until further notice.
Police spokesperson SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi confirmed the arrest, adding that the case includes multiple allegations such as criminal defamation, a threat to life, and incitement capable of disturbing the peace.
“The allegations are supported by credible evidence, and the suspect admitted to broadcasting questioning,” she stated.
