The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) has issued a public notice warning of power disconnection to the Presidential Villa and several top government agencies due to unpaid electricity bills totaling N47 billion.

The notice, published in Thisday newspaper, outlines that 86 Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) are indebted, with the Nigerian army barracks and military formations owing the highest amount of over N12 billion.

Other significant debtors include the FCT Ministry, Ministry of Finance, CBN Governor, and more. AEDC, frustrated by previous unsuccessful attempts to collect payments, sets February 28 as the deadline for settlement.

This development sheds light on the extensive mismanagement and outstanding debts within the Nigerian government, despite budget allocations for settling electricity bills.

The federal government allocated N40 billion for the "Settlement of MDAs electricity debts" in the current year's budget.
