Nigeria's national grid collapsed again on Monday, causing widespread blackouts across the country. This marks the seventh such incident in 2024. Power generation dropped to zero at 1:33 p.m. The latest failure follows a similar outage in July, highlighting ongoing instability in Nigeria’s power sector.
Nigeria's national electricity grid collapsed once more, resulting in a widespread blackout. According to a Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) official, the grid suffered a partial collapse, with power generation dropping to zero at 1:33 p.m.
This marks the seventh outage of 2024. Before the failure, electricity generation by various companies fluctuated significantly. For example, output from Afam IV & V, Azura-Edo IPP, and other key plants peaked before plummeting to nothing.
The latest blackout follows a similar event on July 6, 2024, highlighting ongoing instability in Nigeria's power sector. The gradual restoration of power is underway, but the incident underscores persistent challenges in the country's electricity infrastructure.
