A fire broke out at Ago Medical Centre in Okota, Lagos, on Friday evening, reportedly due to a power surge when public electricity was restored. The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) responded swiftly, with its team arriving at the scene at 6:50 p.m. No lives were lost, and no injuries were reported. The fire affected parts of a story building housing the hospital. LASEMA’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, confirmed that the agency activated the emergency response plan and dispatched teams from Oshodi. Upon arrival, it was found that the fire had been caused by a spark following the power surge.

The fire was contained through joint efforts of LASEMA’s Fire Unit, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, and other responders, preventing it from spreading to nearby buildings. Although the blaze was still raging, authorities worked diligently to bring it under control. Dr. Oke-Osanyintolu praised the swift response and emphasized that the situation did not result in any casualties.

The fire incident is still under investigation as LASEMA continues to oversee recovery operations and ensure the safety of the surrounding area. Emergency responders included the Nigeria Police Force, Lagos Neighbourhood Security Corps, and LASEMA’s Eagle Response Team. The fire has left the community on high alert, but authorities continue to manage the situation effectively.
