The Nigerian Presidency has challenged opposition figures, including Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Nasir El-Rufai, to test their popularity against President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections. The statement follows recent criticisms of Tinubu’s administration, with allegations of bribery and concerns over APC’s internal democracy.

The Nigerian Presidency has called on opposition figures criticizing President Bola Tinubu to hold their ambitions until the 2027 elections.

Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Media and Public Communications, Sunday Dare, dismissed the recent political attacks from opposition leaders, including Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Rabiu Kwankwaso, Nasir El-Rufai, and Rotimi Amaechi. He argued that rather than engaging in political distractions, they should wait for the next election to gauge their influence.

In a social media post, Dare accused these politicians of "heating up the polity" while the president was working on Nigeria’s energy solutions in Tanzania. He insisted that 2025 is too early for electioneering, urging opposition figures to be patient.

His remarks come amid growing tensions between the opposition and the ruling APC. Atiku recently alleged that Tinubu’s party had attempted to weaken opposition unity by offering N50 million bribes to key figures. El-Rufai, meanwhile, expressed discontent with APC’s internal workings, claiming the party’s decision-making bodies had been inactive for two years.

Amaechi took a stronger stance, arguing that force might be necessary to challenge Tinubu’s grip on power in 2027, as he believes the president would not relinquish control willingly.

With opposition voices growing louder, Nigeria’s political landscape is already gearing up for a heated contest in the next general election.
