Former Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai criticizes the APC and the current administration, citing a lack of internal democracy and ineffective leadership. The Presidency responds, questioning his stance. APC urges members to address concerns internally. The dispute highlights deepening political tensions and calls for opposition unity.
Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has recently criticized the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the current administration, expressing concerns over the party's internal dynamics and the state of governance in Nigeria. He lamented the absence of internal democracy within the APC, noting that no party organ has convened in the past two years, leading him to question the party's current structure.
El-Rufai also emphasized the need for higher standards in political leadership, criticizing the emergence of unqualified leaders due to inadequate delegate selection processes. He further alleged deliberate efforts to destabilize opposition parties and called for a united front among them to safeguard democracy.
In response, the Presidency, through Special Adviser on Policy Communications Daniel Bwala, expressed disappointment in El-Rufai's remarks, highlighting his significant role in forming the current government. Bwala questioned whether El-Rufai would have maintained the same stance had he been part of the administration.
Additionally, the National Publicity Director of the APC, Bala Ibrahim, acknowledged El-Rufai's right to his opinion but suggested that such concerns should be directed to the party leadership rather than being aired publicly. He emphasized that the APC is receptive to feedback and encourages members to voice their concerns through appropriate channels.
