President Bola Tinubu congratulated Monday Okpebholo on his victory in the Edo State governorship election, urging him to view the win as a call to service. He encouraged unity among political rivals and advised those dissatisfied with the results to seek legal recourse.

President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on his victory in the recent Edo State governorship election. Okpebholo secured 291,667 votes, defeating Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who received 247,274 votes, while Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party (LP) came in third with 22,763 votes.

In a statement released by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu stressed that Okpebholo's win should serve as a call to public service rather than an opportunity for triumphalism. He encouraged Okpebholo to reach out to his political opponents to foster unity and collaboration for the betterment of Edo State.

The President also praised all candidates for their contributions to enhancing Nigeria's democracy through a peaceful electoral process. He remarked that such elections demonstrate the nation's commitment to stability and democratic values.

Additionally, Tinubu urged those who are dissatisfied with the election results to utilize legal channels to seek redress. He expressed appreciation for the efforts of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies in conducting a successful and peaceful election. In his remarks, Tinubu reaffirmed INEC’s commitment to ensuring that elections in Nigeria are free and fair, underscoring the significance of maintaining a trustworthy electoral system.
