President Bola Tinubu will attend John Mahama’s second inauguration as Ghana’s president on January 7, 2025. Mahama returns to office after defeating Vice-President Bawumia in Ghana’s general elections. Tinubu, as ECOWAS chairman, will join other African leaders at the ceremony, emphasizing regional solidarity and diplomatic ties.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will travel to Accra, Ghana, on Monday to attend the inauguration of John Mahama as Ghana’s president on January 7, 2025. This marks Mahama’s second term in office, having previously served as president from 2012 to 2017.

According to Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu’s special adviser, the Nigerian president is attending at Mahama’s invitation. Mahama recently secured re-election, defeating Vice-President Mahamudu Bawumia in Ghana’s general elections with 56.55% of the vote. Bawumia, who represented the ruling New Patriotic Party, conceded before the final results were announced, an act Tinubu commended as exemplary during the last ECOWAS summit.

As the chairman of ECOWAS, Tinubu will join other regional leaders at the inauguration to underscore the importance of cooperation and solidarity within West Africa. Accompanying Tinubu will be Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, Nigeria’s minister of state for foreign affairs, along with other senior officials.
