President Bola Ahmed Tinubu addressed Nigerians in China, explaining the recent petrol price increase, now between N897 and N1000 per liter. He attributed the rise to tough decisions made by his administration, emphasizing that sacrifices are necessary for improving Nigeria's infrastructure and basic amenities.

In a recent address to Nigerians living in China, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu explained the rationale behind the recent surge in petrol prices in Nigeria. The price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, has risen significantly, with current rates fluctuating between N897 and N1000 per liter.

Tinubu, who wrapped up his official visit to China on Friday in Beijing, described his trip as "very good and successful." During a meeting with Nigerians residing and conducting business in the country, he discussed the reasons for the petrol price hike. According to Tinubu, the increase is a result of difficult decisions made by his administration to address the country’s broader infrastructure and economic challenges.

He compared the situation in Nigeria with the infrastructure in China, highlighting the contrast between the reliable road systems and consistent electricity supply in China versus Nigeria. Tinubu emphasized that such improvements in Nigeria’s basic amenities, including water supply and education, require significant sacrifice and adjustments from the citizens.

The President acknowledged that while the rising fuel prices are a burden, they are part of a broader strategy to enhance Nigeria’s infrastructure and public services. His comments aimed to explain the necessity behind the price increase and to encourage Nigerians to support these measures for long-term benefits.
