President Bola Tinubu is set to return to Abuja on Sunday after completing his official visit to China and a brief stay in the United Kingdom, according to the Presidency. Tinubu departed Abuja for Beijing on August 29, with his official engagements commencing on September 2.

During his visit, President Tinubu was received with honor, including a 21-gun salute, before engaging in bilateral discussions with Chinese President Xi Jinping. The two leaders signed five significant Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) aimed at enhancing cooperation between Nigeria and China. These agreements included initiatives related to the Belt and Road Initiative, peaceful nuclear energy applications, and human resource development.

Notably, a partnership was established for the construction of the 68 km Lagos Green rail line, which will connect the Lekki Free Zone to the Marina and the Blue Line. Additionally, a $1 billion iron ore-to-steel project was also formalized.

Before attending the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), where he emphasized the need for multilateralism and cooperation for global peace, President Tinubu visited major Chinese companies, including Huawei.

Following his productive engagements in China, Tinubu traveled to the UK, where he met with King Charles III to discuss climate change issues. The President’s trip is seen as a significant move to strengthen Nigeria’s international relations and attract investment.
