The Senate Committee on Gas has urged President Tinubu's administration to present a 2023 supplementary budget to the National Assembly for the Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) project. While commending the CNG initiative, the committee emphasized the importance of following legal procedures for budget allocation.
Chairman Senator Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe stated that spending taxpayer money on projects without National Assembly approval would be illegal. He highlighted the need for a supplementary budget to fund the gas value chain and CNG infrastructure and vehicles. The National Assembly expressed its readiness to support Tinubu's administration's programs but stressed the importance of adhering to budgetary processes.
Tinubu's administration recently removed fuel subsidies and aims to introduce CNG-powered vehicles to improve public transportation. In his Independence speech, the President announced plans to deploy cost-effective and safer CNG buses nationwide, which would positively impact transport fares. Additionally, new CNG conversion kits and training facilities are being established to benefit transport operators and entrepreneurs, with a focus on expediting procurement processes
