Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Abuja, Nigeria, marking his first visit in 17 years. Welcomed by President Tinubu and ministers Nyesom Wike and Bianca Tinubu, this visit aims to strengthen India-Nigeria relations and expand strategic cooperation. The three-nation tour includes Brazil and Guyana.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Abuja, Nigeria, on Sunday for his first-ever visit to the West African nation, marking a significant step in strengthening India-Nigeria relations. The visit is part of a three-nation tour that also includes Brazil and Guyana. Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, along with Ministers Nyesom Wike and Bianca Tinubu, personally welcomed PM Modi at the airport, highlighting the importance of the visit in deepening bilateral ties.

In a tweet, PM Modi expressed his gratitude to President Tinubu, saying, “Landed a short while ago in Nigeria. Grateful for the warm welcome. May this visit deepen the bilateral friendship between our nations.” This marks the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Nigeria in 17 years.

President Tinubu shared his excitement on social media, emphasizing the significance of the trip for expanding strategic cooperation between India and Nigeria in critical sectors. “Our bilateral discussions will seek to expand the strategic partnership,” he said.

As part of his reception, PM Modi was honored with the Key to the City of Abuja by Nyesom Wike, the Minister for the Federal Capital Territory. The visit, scheduled to last from November 16 to 21, will also include attending the G20 Leaders' Summit in Brazil and a historic visit to Guyana, marking the first Indian Prime Minister’s visit in over 50 years.
