Nigerian youths protested at the NNPCL towers in Abuja, demanding the resignation of Group CEO Mele Kyari due to rising fuel prices and economic hardship. Organized by civil society groups, protesters called for an end to fraudulent fuel subsidies and the importation of adulterated fuel.
A large group of Nigerians, particularly youths, gathered outside the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) towers in Abuja, calling for the resignation of Group Chief Executive Officer Mele Kyari. The demonstration, organized by several civil society organizations, highlighted grievances regarding skyrocketing fuel prices, long queues at fuel stations, and the resulting economic difficulties faced by Nigerians.
Protesters carried placards with messages such as “We demand the immediate resignation of Kyari,” emphasizing their discontent with his leadership. Abdullahi Bilal, one of the protest organizers, addressed the media, criticizing the ongoing “fraudulent fuel subsidy” and the alleged importation of substandard fuel into the country. He stated that these practices have negatively impacted citizens’ livelihoods and called for an end to them.
Bilal further urged the government to implement full deregulation in the oil sector to promote transparency and fair competition. He expressed concern over the detrimental effects of adulterated fuel on vehicles and businesses, insisting that accountability must be enforced for those responsible.
