The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the retirement of police officers over 60 years old or those with more than 35 years of service. The decision aims to enforce adherence to public service rules and was made during the PSC’s first extraordinary meeting for 2025.

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has officially announced the retirement of senior police officers who are either over 60 years old or have surpassed 35 years of service. This decision was made during the Commission's first extraordinary meeting for 2025, chaired by retired Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Hashimu Argungu.

The measure aligns with the Public Service Rule No. 020908, which mandates mandatory retirement for officers meeting these criteria. The PSC reviewed earlier decisions, such as the 2017 Plenary Meeting's approval to align Force entrants’ appointment dates with enlistment dates, and determined that it conflicted with established retirement regulations.

As a result, the Commission is now enforcing this policy to ensure better compliance with public service guidelines. The Inspector General of Police has been directed to implement the policy immediately. This decision marks a significant step towards maintaining the discipline and operational efficiency within the Nigeria Police Force.
