An escalating recruitment row has erupted between the Police Service Commission (PSC) and the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), with PSC staff accusing the Inspector General of Police of attempting to usurp the commission's constitutional authority over the appointment of new constables.
The tensions surfaced after the NPF rejected the PSC's recently released list of successful candidates in the ongoing recruitment exercise, alleging irregularities. PSC workers have hit back, claiming the IGP's criticism of the recruitment process stems from his attempts to override the commission's powers.
"This clandestine scheming by the IGP to usurp such powers is an affront to both the constitution and the Supreme Court's ruling," the PSC staff stated. They argue the police leadership's objections mask a bid to control the influential recruitment process that determines future police hierarchy.
