Russian President Vladimir Putin has attributed the ongoing crisis in the Middle East, following Hamas' incursion into southern Israel, to the United States' inability to resolve conflicts. Putin argued that the crisis is a glaring example of the US's failures in Middle East policies, emphasizing the US's attempts to monopolize the peace settlement process without considering compromises acceptable to both parties. He added that the US never viewed the core interests of the Palestinian people, including creating an independent Palestinian nation-state as outlined in UN Security Council resolutions.

During a meeting with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed al-Sudani in Moscow, Putin made these remarks, stressing that both nations prioritize minimizing harm to civilians on both sides of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov had previously blamed the US for the renewed hostilities, suggesting that the quartet of Middle East mediators (including the US, Russia, the EU, and the UN) should lead in peace talks. He argued that the US had sidelined this mechanism to monopolize the process for its benefit.

The crisis began when Hamas launched a surprise attack on Israeli territory, leading to Israeli military operations in Gaza. While the US pledged military support for Israel and called on other nations to condemn Hamas, Russia emphasized the need for a genuine reconciliation based on a two-state solution.
