In a joint effort coordinated by the International Organisation for Migration (IOM), at least 320 Nigerians stranded in Libya have been successfully rescued. Libya, a major departure point for migrants aiming to reach Europe, has witnessed a surge in individuals from various African countries seeking better prospects.
The recent deportation, executed by Libya's migration agency in collaboration with the IOM, involved the expulsion of 163 irregular migrants, including women, men, and children, from Mitiga airport in Tripoli.
An additional 160 Nigerians are set to be repatriated from Benina airport in Benghazi. The operation sheds light on the ongoing challenges faced by migrants in Libya, where over 700,000 individuals, according to the IOM, are seeking better living conditions.
This humanitarian initiative underscores the importance of international cooperation in addressing the complexities of migration and providing assistance to those in need.
