The Delta State Police Command successfully rescued nine students who were abducted along the East-West Road in Ughelli, Delta State. The students, who were traveling in a minibus, were abducted on Monday, sparking concerns for their safety. However, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Edafe Bright, confirmed their rescue via social media late Monday.
The abductees, reportedly returning from school in Calabar, Cross River State, had been held captive by unknown assailants. Fortunately, the bus driver remained unharmed, and no ransom demands were made by the kidnappers.
The police swiftly launched a rescue operation, underscoring the commitment to ensuring the safety of citizens. This incident echoes recent cases of abduction, notably the kidnapping of 137 schoolchildren in Kaduna State on March 7, where tragically, a teacher lost his life while in captivity.
Despite the challenges, authorities continue to prioritize the security and well-being of students, with efforts aimed at providing counseling and therapy to those affected by such traumatic experiences.
