Rema and Asake make Barack Obama's 2024 favorite music playlist with their hit songs "Yayo" and "Active." Obama shared his curated list on X, showcasing diverse genres. The Nigerian artists join a growing list of international stars recognized by the former U.S. president for their global impact.
Rema and Asake have made it to former U.S. President Barack Obama’s favorite music list for 2024, marking a significant achievement for Nigerian artists. Obama unveiled his playlist, which includes 24 tracks, on X, encouraging followers to explore his choices and suggest new music for him. Rema’s “Yayo” and Asake’s “Active,” featuring Travis Scott, are the only Nigerian songs on the list.
Notably, “Yayo” was also included in Obama’s 2023 summer playlist. The 2024 playlist spans various genres, featuring artists like Tyla, Leon Bridges, and The Red Clay Strays. Obama’s tradition of sharing his favorite tracks dates back to his final days in office when he partnered with Spotify to curate these lists.
This year’s inclusion marks another milestone for Nigerian music globally, continuing a trend seen in previous years. In 2019, Burna Boy and Rema’s tracks were featured, while 2020 saw Wizkid and Tems’ “Essence” cutting.
