Ondo State Police debunk claims that First Lady Remi Tinubu’s convoy was involved in a fatal Akure accident. Authorities confirm a hit-and-run by an unregistered Lexus caused the tragedy. Eyewitnesses and investigations support the denial. The police promise a full inquiry and visit the victim’s family for reassurance.

The Ondo State Police Command has strongly refuted allegations that a vehicle in First Lady Remi Tinubu’s convoy was responsible for the tragic death of a young girl in Akure on April 18. The incident, initially reported by Sahara Reporters, claimed the convoy was involved in the fatal accident, but police have labeled the story as false and misleading.

According to police spokesperson DSP Olufunmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, the accident was caused by an unregistered white Lexus vehicle involved in a hit-and-run near the Oba-Ile area. Eyewitnesses, including one who reportedly chased the vehicle on a motorcycle, confirmed the fleeing car had no ties to the First Lady’s convoy.

Senator Tinubu was in Ondo to launch the Renewed Hope Initiative Health Programme and distribute medical supplies, including 10,000 kits for midwives. The police emphasized that her visit had no connection to the unfortunate event.

The command also corrected misinformation about the victim’s age. Contrary to the report, which stated the girl was nine years old, her parents confirmed she was seven.

Police officials, including the Commissioner of Police, have since visited the bereaved family and assured them of a thorough investigation to bring the hit-and-run driver to justice.

The statement concluded by reiterating that no vehicle from the First Lady’s team was involved, urging the public to disregard unfounded reports and await official findings.
