Reno Omokri has vowed to dismantle the Obidient Movement, claiming he helped Peter Obi secure his 2019 vice-presidential candidacy. Alleging harassment from Obidients, he accused Obi of inaction. His statements have sparked reactions, with critics dismissing his claims and analysts debating his political motives.
Reno Omokri has publicly stated that he is committed to dismantling the Obidient Movement, a group of Peter Obi’s supporters. Speaking with News Central on March 27, Omokri alleged that Obi was initially his “project” and credited himself with recommending the former Anambra governor as Atiku Abubakar’s running mate in the 2019 election.
Omokri justified his stance, claiming that Obidients harassed and threatened him and his family. According to him, the hostility escalated beyond social media, with members allegedly stalking him and his wife in the UK. Frustrated by Peter Obi’s lack of intervention, Omokri vowed to leverage his political influence to dismantle the movement.
His remarks have triggered a heated debate, with Obidients dismissing his claims as self-serving. Some supporters argue that the movement transcends Peter Obi and cannot be derailed by one individual. Meanwhile, political analysts see Omokri’s comments as a strategic move to remain relevant in Nigeria’s political discourse.
