In a move to support President Bola Tinubu’s humanitarian efforts, members of Nigeria’s House of Representatives have donated ₦705 million, representing a 50% salary deduction over six months. Speaker Abbas Tajudeen presented the cheque on behalf of the lawmakers during an Iftar gathering at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Monday.

Tajudeen emphasized that the donation aligns with the administration’s efforts to provide relief for vulnerable Nigerians. He urged citizens to reflect on the country’s progress and dedicate prayers for economic stability and security. The lawmakers also reaffirmed their commitment to Tinubu’s policies, stating they are designed for the nation’s long-term benefit.

While supporters commend the gesture as a demonstration of solidarity, critics question whether such contributions address systemic economic issues. The move comes amid ongoing debates about government spending and the effectiveness of social welfare initiatives.
