President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's appointment of Abdullahi Ganduje as Chairman of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has ignited widespread criticism, especially on social media. Investigative journalist Fisayo Soyombo led the charge, highlighting Ganduje’s past controversies, including a widely circulated 2018 video allegedly showing him stashing bribe money under his traditional attire.
Soyombo tweeted, “From being filmed hastily stashing $230,000 under his babanriga in 2018 to becoming the APC national chairman in 2023 and today getting appointed by Tinubu as new board chair of FAAN, Abdullahi Ganduje is proof that in Nigeria, the reward for corruption is public office!”
Critics argue the appointment symbolizes the normalization of corruption in Nigeria’s governance, with some attributing the move to political motivations ahead of the 2027 elections. Others lament the lack of accountability and transparency in leadership.
