Nuhu Ribadu, Nigeria’s National Security Adviser (NSA), has rejected allegations that Nigeria is hosting a foreign military base. The accusations were made by Abdourahamane Tchiani, the military leader of Niger Republic, who claimed that Nigeria was working with France to destabilize Niger. This follows growing tensions between the two nations after Niger, along with Mali and Burkina Faso, decided to exit the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

In an interview with BBC Hausa, Ribadu dismissed the claims, insisting that there are no foreign soldiers or military installations in Nigeria. He encouraged journalists to visit the locations mentioned by Tchiani and check with residents to confirm the absence of foreign forces. Ribadu emphasized that Nigeria is not a threat to Niger and suggested that both countries should focus on combating shared security issues, such as terrorism, rather than creating division.

Ribadu reaffirmed that Nigeria and Niger are close neighbors, with a shared responsibility to ensure the safety and development of their populations. He urged both nations to cooperate in tackling regional security challenges, highlighting the importance of unity in facing common threats.
