PANDEF has called on President Tinubu to intervene in the Rivers State political crisis, urging him to rein in FCT Minister Nyesom Wike over inflammatory remarks. The group accuses Wike of blocking peace efforts between Governor Fubara and lawmakers, insisting that Tinubu must ensure all parties engage in reconciliation.

The Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) has called on President Bola Tinubu to intervene in the escalating political tensions in Rivers State, urging him to restrain Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), over his refusal to engage in reconciliation efforts.

PANDEF leaders expressed concern that Wike’s confrontational stance is hindering dialogue between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the state assembly members. During a recent meeting with President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, PANDEF emphasized the need for peace and urged the president to ensure that all parties respect the reconciliation process. However, Wike dismissed the group’s concerns, branding PANDEF as unreliable.

Former Akwa Ibom State Governor Victor Attah, who chairs PANDEF’s reconciliation committee, criticized Wike’s comments, stating they undermine the credibility of the peace process. Similarly, PANDEF National Chairman Godknows Igali described Wike’s remarks as inappropriate and called for the minister to retract his statements and respect Niger Delta leaders.

The group insists that Tinubu, as the nation’s leader, must take decisive action to prevent further instability in Rivers State. They urged the president to compel Wike to support reconciliation efforts and engage constructively in resolving the crisis.
