Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, defends his decision to present the 2025 budget to just three lawmakers. He criticizes defected legislators for switching parties and insists they’ve lost their seats. Fubara emphasizes his commitment to the state’s integrity and stands firm against the insults from Wike's allies.
Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has defended his decision to present the 2025 budget to only three lawmakers, maintaining that the 27 defected legislators who switched from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) have lost their seats permanently.
In a press conference following the budget signing on Thursday, Fubara expressed frustration with the insults and disrespect he claims to have received from allies of his predecessor, Nyesom Wike. He emphasized that the three-member legislative assembly, led by Speaker Victor Oko-Jumbo, is the only legitimate governing body in the state.
Fubara compared the lawmakers' defection to a failed voyage, explaining that they had made a critical mistake and now sought to retract their actions. He made it clear that the state's peace efforts had been exhausted and that he would no longer tolerate the insults directed at him.
The governor further stated that no Nigerian governor could have withstood the level of disrespect he had endured, reiterating his commitment to defending the state's integrity. Fubara made it clear that the focus of his administration remains on the welfare and interests of Rivers State, underscoring that they have moved on from the situation.
