Rivers State LG Chairman Chijioke Ihunwo faces mixed reactions after appointing 130 Special Assistants. Critics question the necessity, citing governance excess, while supporters see it as employment. Skitmaker Sabinus humorously comments on the situation, adding to the debate on resource allocation and priorities in local government administration.

Obio/Akpor Local Government Chairman Chijioke Ihunwo has drawn mixed reactions on social media after appointing 130 Special Assistants. Announced via his X account, Ihunwo urged the new appointees to serve diligently for the local government’s benefit.

Critics questioned the necessity of such appointments, calling for constitutional limits on aides for public officeholders. Supporters, however, defended the move as an opportunity for employment.

Popular skit maker Sabinus also reacted, humorously commenting that "there are too many comedians in Rivers State." His remarks added a lighthearted take to the ongoing debate, sparking further engagement online.

The controversy echoes a similar backlash in July 2024 when Ihunwo, as caretaker chairman, appointed 100 Special Assistants. Critics argue the appointments reflect excess, with #NwankwoFrank6 labeling it “a political jamboree.”

The chairman’s decision follows a history of contentious actions, including renaming the council secretariat last year. Ihunwo replaced Nyesom Wike’s name, the former Rivers governor, with that of late activist Obi Wali.
