Former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike claims Governor Siminalayi Fubara backed the Action Peoples Party (APP) in recent local elections, leading to APP's victory in 22 of 23 seats. Wike, now FCT Minister, accuses Fubara of anti-party actions despite his own support for APC in the 2023 election.

Former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike has accused his successor, Siminalayi Fubara, of financially supporting the Action Peoples Party (APP) during recent local government elections. According to Wike, the backing from Governor Fubara allowed APP to secure 22 of the 23 chairmanship seats, which the governor swore in shortly afterward.

Fubara, who remains a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), expressed disappointment over his party’s absence on the ballot, suggesting he was personally affected by this. However, Wike, now serving as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), questioned Fubara’s commitment to party loyalty.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, Wike defended himself against allegations of anti-party activities, citing his support for President Bola Tinubu from the All Progressives Congress (APC) during the 2023 presidential election. He emphasized that his choices were motivated by principles of equity and justice, not personal gain.

Wike highlighted that PDP Governors’ Forum Chairman Bala Mohammed was present at the inauguration of the newly elected chairpersons, implying the event had broader political significance. He further asserted that discipline within political circles should apply consistently, implying Fubara’s actions merited scrutiny.

The PDP has not yet officially commented on Wike's claims. As political dynamics in Rivers State evolve, these allegations could have lasting implications for both Fubara and the APP’s growing presence in local governance.
