The Nigerian Police have taken control of the PDP Secretariat in Port Harcourt following a leadership crisis in Rivers State. The move comes after the court's decision to remove Aaron Chukwuemeka, and Nname Robinson Ewor was appointed Acting Chairman. Governor Siminalayi Fubara remains the PDP leader.

In Rivers State, the Nigerian Police have taken control of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Secretariat located on Aba Road in Port Harcourt amid an ongoing leadership crisis. A special squad from the Rivers State Police Command deployed to the scene blocked off a section of the road and the main entrance to the secretariat with a patrol van, restricting access to the premises.

This move comes after the Rivers State High Court decided to remove Aaron Chukwuemeka and his executive committee, leading to the appointment of Nname Robinson Ewor as the new Acting Chairman of the PDP in the state. Ewor addressed party members, stating that Chukwuemeka was no longer the state chairman of the PDP, though he could still serve as Chairman of the Grassroots Development Initiative (GDI). Ewor also emphasized that Governor Siminalayi Fubara remains the leader of the PDP in Rivers by his office.

Ewor further clarified that claims suggesting former Governor Nyesom Wike, now the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, is the state’s PDP leader should be disregarded. The police action has disrupted local traffic, causing delays as motorists navigate a single lane along the busy Aba Road. The situation highlights the ongoing tensions within the party as it grapples with leadership disputes.
